2009 Program: The Factory
Mar 20, 2009 7:54 AM
|
|
The 2009 Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to present its 2009 production, "The Factory." The corps will explore the life, sounds, imagery, and experiences of 1940s era factory workers and the people often described as our Greatest Generation.
The people of this time in American life are defined by an indomitable spirit of duty, honor, and country. World War II was raging on two fronts, displacing artists and intellectuals from throughout the world, bringing new ideas forged in disillusionment. Rosie the Riveter became a symbol of female patriotism as men went off to war and women streamed into factories to work on assembly lines.
Ultimately these events changed and defined life in America completely. Women had experienced life away from the traditional role of homemaker; African-Americans would no longer accept second status and began the march to equality; the GI Bill allowed more men than ever before to achieve a college education. As a result, this time period challenged the traditional roles of individuals and inspired a new age of personal expression.
The Blue Stars are looking forward to bringing the sights, sounds, and imagery of "The Factory" to the field in 2009.
