“Michael Shapiro’s creativity and innovation are inspirational to our entire design team and staff," said Corps Director Howard Weinstein. As a colleague and peer, he pushes us all to be the best we can be.”
About Michael Shapiro
Michael Shapiro has been the Blue Stars color guard caption head since the 2008 season. During that time, he has quickly established the Blue Stars' guard as one of the very best in the drum corps activity. Most recently, the Blue Stars color guard placed 6th at the 2009 DCI World Championships.
Michael began his marching career with the Spirit of Atlanta and also performed with the Madison Scouts, and Alliance of Miami. He went on to teach and write for Alliance, as well as many other drum corps and winter guard ensembles. Shapiro's DCI and WGI teaching experience is extensive, and includes Carolina Crown, The Cavaliers, Crossmen, Carroll High School, The Company, Crown Guard, Mayflower (UK), and many other talented organizations.
Michael received his undergraduate education from the University of Miami, and currently resides in West Hollywood, CA and teaches many ensembles in the Southern California area. He also directs the Diamond Bar HS Colorguard and is the founder and director of the Corona winter guards.
"I couldn't be happier to be back with the Blue Stars," said Shapiro. "Designing with such an incredible team, teaching such hard working members, and being part of such a progressive organization has provided me with two amazing summers, and I am looking forward to an even better one in 2010!"
