The Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the return of Michael Shapiro to lead its very successful color guard program for the upcoming season. Shapiro is back for his fifth season as Caption Head, Choreographer and Designer for the Blue Stars color guard, building upon the incredible success of his previous seasons with the corps.
"Michael Shapiro has created some of the most thrilling moments every performed by the Blue Stars and I'm absolutely thrilled to see where he will take the guard and corps in 2012," said Executive Director Brad Furlano.
"Michael's talent to be innovative, entertaining and intriguing is an integral part of our design team at the Blue Stars," said Corps Director Howard Weinstein. "Year after year, he brings out the very best from our color guard members, and we are honored to work with such a professional educator."
About Michael Shapiro
Michael Shapiro has been the Blue Stars color guard caption head since the 2008 season. During that time, he has quickly established the Blue Stars' guard as one of the very best in the drum corps activity.
Michael began his marching career with the Spirit of Atlanta and also performed with the Madison Scouts, and Alliance of Miami. He went on to teach and write for Alliance, as well as many other drum corps and winter guard ensembles. Shapiro's DCI and WGI teaching experience is extensive, and includes Carolina Crown, The Cavaliers, Crossmen, Carroll High School, The Company, Crown Guard, Mayflower (UK), and many other talented organizations.
Michael received his undergraduate education from the University of Miami, and currently resides in West Hollywood, CA and teaches many ensembles in the Southern California area. He also directs the Diamond Bar HS Colorguard and is the founder and director of the Corona winter guards.
"I am beyond thrilled to be back with my Blue Stars family in 2012, and am looking forward to our next ,exciting production!" said Shapiro.
