Help Put A Trailer Under Our Tree
Dec 17, 2014 10:11 AM

We're about half way to our goal of receiving 100% of Tom Volk's generous matching challenge of $25,000 for purchasing and outfitting a new equipment trailer. To help us get over the top, the Blue Stars Alumni Association has issued an additional $6,000 matching challenge for the holidays!

That means every dollar you donate becomes $3 for the project: $1 from you, $1 from Tom, and $1 from the Blue Stars Alumni Association. Donate today to help us put a trailer under the tree for the 2015 Blue Stars and many more Blue Stars' corps in the future!

Auditions Continue for 2015 Blue Stars
Dec 17, 2014 2:21 PM

The Blue Stars have successfully completed its first round of auditions in Indiana, Minnesota, Texas, Oklahoma, and California. We are extremely pleased with the turnout and talent, and can't wait to get started working on the 2015 production. The audition process for the Blue Stars continues at our upcoming camp at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on January 16-18, 2015.

We have awarded membership contracts for about 65% of the available spots in the 2015 brass line. A large number of candidates for the remaining positions have been called back, and we are still accepting new auditionees for the brass program via video audition and at the January camp.

We have called back approximately 70 people to complete for the 33 positions in the Blue Stars' percussion section. We will still accept new auditionees, however the main goal of the January camp is to choose and set the summer ensemble. It is strongly encouraged that new auditionees submit a video audition before the January camp for a skills assessment and feedback before the attending.

Color Guard
We have awarded membership contracts for about 70% of the available positions in the 2015 guard. The audition process for callbacks and new auditionees will continue in April in Indianapolis. Please send an e-mail to director@bluestars.org if you would like information about no-risk, early-payment tuition discounts.

Please visit the Blue Stars Audition Sign-Up page to sign up for the January camp and receive the audition packet. E-mail director@bluestars.org if you have any questions about the Blue Stars or the audition process.

Dreams of a Trailer
Nov 2, 2014 2:15 PM

I dream of one day soon opening my doors to be loaded with musical instruments and uniforms. I dream of transporting brass, percussion, and guard equipment snug and secure to destinations across the country. I dream of traveling with the 150 young women and men of the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps.

Sure, I could be bought by some fancy company and maybe deliver flat screen TVs or the iPhone 6, but I believe I was built for something more.

An Interview with Tom Volk about the New Equipment Trailer Project
Oct 30, 2014 12:51 PM

The new equipment trailer project is one of the largest single projects the Blue Stars have ever tackled from a time, volunteer, and financial standpoint. It will be an "all-hands-on-deck" endeavor to have the trailer ready to roll for the start of the 2015 season.

The success of a big project like this can hinge on the involvement of an angel donor; someone to inspire others to join them in support of the project and the corps. We couldn't be happier to have Tom Volk in the lead on the trailer project, as he is one of the kindest, most generous folks involved in the Blue Stars. He is one of our stalwart volunteers and the current Co-Blue Star of the Year. His smiling face can often be found stirring up a batch of Gatorade or serving hungry members on the food line on the road.

Tom has stepped up in a big way to make the equipment trailer a reality and challenge others to join him in support of the project and the corps, with a $25,000 matching challenge. Tom will personally match your donation – dollar for dollar – to make the new equipment trailer a reality for the 2015 season.

Executive Director Brad Furlano recently had lunch with Tom to discuss the project and the Blue Stars. Click MORE to read the interview.

Support the Blue Stars' 2014 Annual Campaign
Mar 27, 2014 8:34 AM

2014 is a very special year for the Blue Stars, as we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary! From our humble beginnings in 1964 as a color guard the corps established itself as a powerhouse through the 60s and 70s, redefined itself as one of the top small corps in the world, and ultimately made a triumphant return to DCI World Class status in 2006. Through it all, our members, staff, volunteers, supporters have strived to live each day according to our motto: Finis Coronat Opus (FCO) – ‘The End Crowns the Work.'

We rely on the financial support of people like you to offset the significant costs of touring and keep tuition as low as possible! Student tuition covers less than half of our annual operating expenses – this is why I am asking you to continue making this positive, life-changing educational opportunity available.

In honor of our 50th Anniversary, we have received a $50,000 fundraising challenge grant. If we can raise $50,000 or more by June 1, 2014 we will receive a dollar for dollar match. This is an incredible opportunity for the organization to lay the financial foundation for the next 50 years. Help us receive every dollar of the matching gift by making your contribution today!
